EVA is a little bit of everything. While her sound is most commonly described as dance-pop, the artist mixes in pop, funk, R&B, and rock to create one sound that is different from that of her contemporaries. Her talent is on full display in her new “Studio Sessions” video, which you can watch now by using the media player included with this article to get some insight into this up and coming artist at work.
To accompany the video AXS also conducted an email interview with EVA to learn more about her and what plans she has for the future. Though she has not yet announced any tour dates for 2017, you can find her complete catalogue of music on iTunes and keep up with her latest developments on her official website. Here’s what she had to tell AXS about how she became the versatile artist she is today.
AXS: What motivated you to become a recording artist?
EVA: I knew ever since I was little that I wanted to sing and be on stage performing. My very first concert was the Spice Girls; I was instantly obsessed! It’s been great having a clear direction of what I wanted to pursue in life since I was very young, though its been a tough road/industry to be in. I’m very grateful I’ve been able to work toward my dreams. I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else.
AXS: You have a wide variety of sounds in your music, so do you have a wide variety of influences?
EVA: Some of my favorite female artists are Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and Demi Lovato. I also love and frequently listen to Bruno Mars, Sublime, Queen. I like a pretty wide variety of music. Honestly, I’ve pretty much just been listening to Britney and Gaga’s new albums on repeat since they came out! I’m obsessed with Gaga’s new tracks “Perfect Illusion,” “Million Reasons,” and “Grigio Girls.” Usually in the car I just listen to the radio, mostly top 40’s stations and I love the POP2K Sirius station. That was the great stuff I grew up on and I love it.
AXS: Then how do you describe yourself as an artist?
EVA: I’m not too picky when it comes to my creative space. Sometimes I like to have some wine, I usually drink hot tea while recording, and I like to wear my comfy yoga pants in the studio. I’ve learned that I’m a bit of a perfectionist in the studio, I like to record lots of takes to make it sound just right. I don’t usually like to have too many people in the studio while I’m recording, I can get distracted easily. But I do joke around a lot and like to have fun as part of the process!
AXS: Your last single “Trapped” came out in 2014. So what are your future plans for new music or new performances?
EVA: We’ve been working on a new song called “Over You.” It’s getting close to being finished up. It’s a great “breakup” type of song. Its definitely a fun and catchy pop track that I think lots of people will enjoy. At the moment we’re just focusing on finishing up some new music in the studio. I’m about to fly to New York City to get some new pictures taken with Nigel Barker, [which is] very exciting [because] I watched a lot of “America’s Next Top Model” back in the day. I know my awesome team is working on some new stuff for me, but I hope to start up a tour in the near future. The ultimate goal is to headline my own world tour!
AXS: What’s the impression you want to leave as an artist? What motivates you to make music?
EVA: Of course I want people to really enjoy my music but I hope it goes beyond that as well. I’m someone who listens to certain songs when I’m feeling certain emotions, so I hope others are able to use my music in their own therapeutic ways. I have some meaningful songs and just some plain “feel good, booty shaking” music. So there’s definitely room for lots of people to connect.
AXS: What’s the last great concert that you went to as a music fan?
EVA: The last concert I went to was Adele at Staples Center in Los Angeles. She was amazing. Not like that’s news to anyone, but I loved it! She’s just so talented and has great music. I was impressed with how much she spoke to the crowd and took the time to connect and really show her personality on stage. Notes were definitely taken on my end that night. I also saw AC/DC about a year ago with my mom in San Francisco at Giants Stadium. I just have to reference that concert because it was for sure one of the coolest experiences ever. Being an 80’s rock band that I love, whoever thought I’d get to see them live in concert? They crushed it. Such a fun show that I’ll remember forever.
